Assignment 53: Voyager
In this exercise I had to create my own newletter using Microsoft Publisher for Voyager Travel Adventures. In the activity I had to decide on my own formatting and design for my newsletter that would present the information in an organized manner. Along with typing the information in the newsletter, I had to create my own design and include a picture that resembled the criteria in the newsletter. Some of the technology skills I used were: using Microsoft Publisher to create a newsletter, formatting the newsletter appropriately, and saving a picture from the Internet to include in the newsletter. By creating this assignment, I learned skills in Microsoft Publisher like designing and creating a newsletter, changing fonts and creating text boxes with Microsoft Publisher and how to insert a picture from the Internet to go along with the activity. In this particular assignment I believe I did well in organizing and designing my newsletter into the different categories and managing my space appropriately. To improve upon my work in this activity, I would chose a different color scheme. I think my light colors do not do the newsletter justice and make it harder for the reader to see the font.
Career Research
In this assignment I began my research into my career exploration project. I began the project by taking the O*NET Interest Inventory quiz on a web quest. After taking the quiz online, I was given three personality types that best suited my abilities and matched my personality. With these personality types I had to review the descriptions of the different types from the web quest and decide overall if I agreed with my matches. After exploring my different personality types I used the Holland Personality Types link in the web quest to explore different career opportunities that match my personality types. After identifying career choices based on my top three personality types, I then researched all of my ten career choices in depth with the Occupational Outlook Handbook in the web quest. Along with researching my career choices, I had to answer eleven questions based on each career's specific information including some basic information like: a brief description of the career, average salary, percentage job growth, education requirements, technology skills needed, and the work environment. After finishing all my research, I then narrowed down my selection to three career choices and inserted data on these careers into excel bar charts. Technology skills that I used in this assignment included: using the Internet to take an inventory quiz, using the Internet to explore different career options based on my personality types and using Microsoft Word and Excel to record all of my data and research I gathered on my career choices. By creating this career exploration activity I was able to gather a better understanding of conducting research on the Internet, taking a screen shot on the Internet and using Microsoft Word to organize my reseacrch data. I believe I was very thorough in my research information and organized all my data for my career choices appropriately in this assignment. In order to improve my work in this activity I think I could have formatted the document with different colors or fonts to help respresent my different topics or careers better.
